Graduates who have moved on to the college athletic ranks from last season include Jaxon Hicks (NW Missouri State – Simone Award Winner), Trevor Bindel (Washington State), Isaiah Hung (Washington State), Jax Froehlich (Washburn), and Trenton Bindel (Washburn).
Averaging nearly 30 points a game in 2024, the Jays’ offense and a historically strong defense were able to take them all the way to the state semifinals in Class 6. This team knows how to pull together and win close games. And with fourteen returning All-Conference players and multiple three-year starters, these battle-tested Jays are poised to have another excellent season. As always, the Jays excel in having outstanding multi-sport athletes on the roster.
One of the fastest players on the team, Connor Hatfield, a second-year starting senior, will return to the quarterback position. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound, All-Conference and All-District dual-threat quarterback with a 3.8 GPA has had a great summer workout/camp season.
“Connor looks more comfortable and confident this summer,” says Head Coach Chad Frigon. “It’s been good to see. Last year, we were such a run-heavy team. We have to be able to throw the ball better, and he’s really made a concentrated effort. He knows that’s what we need to do to make our offense more effective than it was last year.”
With some new faces filling spots on the team, quarterback Hatfield has been happy with the progress the team has made in the offseason.
“I like the work in and everybody’s really on the same page,” says Hatfield. We all have the same goal in mind. It’s been great working with those new guys and watching them improve every day. Everybody is getting better together.”

Up front and blocking for Hatfield will be a three-sport athlete, Senior Jonathan Pearcy. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound All-State offensive lineman is committed to playing football at Wyoming after high school. He has received more than thirty Division 1 football offers. He also has multiple D1 offers for baseball. Pearcy moves well, is aggressive, and consistently executes his assignments. His athletic ability and strength will be something that defenses will struggle to deal with.
Another player who can move defenders and create seams is the offensive lineman, Brooks Lawson. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound senior was All-Conference last season. Also a potent pass blocker, Lawson has received numerous college football offers. Trey Endsley, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound senior who has received college offers, will be back at tackle. The starter missed most of last season with an injury.
There has been a Bindel brother starting for the Blue Jays for a number of years now, and this year will be no different. Junior Masen Bindel, 6-foot, 230-pound All-Conference running back who plays in the H-back spot, will be a blocking and running threat for the Jays.
Liberty’s physical and punishing defense also returns with a strong core of high-level talent, including George Richter, First-Team All-State Defensive End. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder has several D1 offers, including Cornell University and Northern Iowa. Another physically explosive nightmare for opposing offenses, Richter has an aggressive style of play and is a proven run stopper.
A pair of starter senior linebackers return, including Brooks Ragland. He is committed to playing D1 football next season at Northern Iowa. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound All-District and All-Conference linebacker carries a 4.0 GPA. Another standout All-District linebacker is Grady Coppinger, 6-foot1, 210-pound, who plays baseball and football. He has been All-District twice and All-Conference as a linebacker. He has several college offers.
Also back is Logan Sutton, 5-foot-11, and 185-pound All-District defensive back and kick returner. He was a First-team All-Conference Defensive Back. In the Spring, he was the Suburban Red Conference Baseball player of the Year. Expect some touchdown kick returns and a few interceptions this season from Sutton.
As the Blue Machine returns to the gridiron for the 2025 campaign, they bring back formidable talent from both their returning starters and standout players. With strong leadership from Coach Frigon and a solid blend of offensive and defensive strength, the team is well-positioned to build on last year’s success.
