Chris Beard pursued Collins out of high school while he was coaching at Texas Tech. Years later, Beard remains intrigued by Collins’ athleticism and defensive ability, after Ole Miss played against LSU this season. Beard’s teams have always hung their hat on defense, making Collins a potentially perfect fit in Oxford. Following the Rebels’ Sweet 16 appearance, they will likely lose some key pieces, including Jaemyn Brakefield, Dre Davis and Mikeal Brown-Jones. Collins could help replace the size and production lost from those players as a veteran leader in Beard’s system.
