Darian DeVries to Indiana: 5 WVU basketball head coach candidates
Ben McCollum
McCollum’s name has been brought up for several coaching vacancies with the sustained success he has had. The Iowa native who played at Northwest Missouri State spent 15 seasons as head coach at his alma mater from 2009-24. He compiled a 395-91 record with the Bearcats, winning 12 regular-season conference titles and four Division II national championships. McCollum was also named Division II Coach of the Year five times. The success has continued at the D-I level this season at Drake. McCollum was recently named Missouri Valley Coach of the Year, leading the Bulldogs to 30 wins, a conference title and the NCAA Tournament. McCollum remains inexperienced at this level, but his success, and his relationship with AD Wren Baker, who he worked with at Northwest Missouri State, could make him a perfect fit.
