Hoover basketball player Zoe McCort is ready for the next level
NORTH CANTON, Ohio — At 17 years old, Hoover High School鈥檚 Zoe McCort has been playing basketball for 12 years. She is committed to improving her game and taking it to the next level, playing at an HBCU or, if given the chance, continuing to play overseas after college.

The long basketball season can be demanding, and staying consistent is a challenge. Zoe manages by balancing hard work with recovery. She makes sure to get her training in while also allowing herself the necessary downtime. Her father鈥檚 advice鈥斺淵ou separate yourself from the competition by your preparation鈥濃攌eeps her motivated. She follows a routine of early morning reps and post-practice workouts to refine her skills.
Basketball is more than just a sport for Zoe; it is about teamwork and the bonds she has built with her teammates. She enjoys the family-like atmosphere and values the relationships she has formed through the game. Her pregame routine varies but often includes watching film with her dad, getting up early to shoot in the gym, stretching, and listening to 鈥90s R&B or NBA YoungBoy to focus before tip-off.

Outside of basketball, Zoe spends time with friends and family, watches Marvel movies, and listens to music. The game has taught her teamwork, perseverance, and how to play to her team鈥檚 strengths. One lesson from her coach stands out: gratitude and humility help approach each game with the mindset needed to succeed.
During a game against Perry, she had a chance to win in regulation but missed the shot. Instead of dwelling on it, she kept playing through two overtimes, and her team eventually won. It was one of the best games of the season and a reminder that persistence matters.

With her work ethic and love for the game, Zoe McCort is set to make the most of her basketball journey. She is ready for whatever comes next.
