How Arkansas Razorbacks football did financially in FY2024

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (BVM) 鈥 The University of Arkansas athletic department has released its annual financial report for fiscal year 2024.聽

The 80-page document, which was submitted to the NCAA by Jan. 15, was obtained by 海角社区 through open records. It highlights revenue, expense and profit figures of the Arkansas Razorbacks football program.聽

Note that FY2024 covers the reporting period from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. It reflects the 2023 football season in which the Razorbacks finished with a 4-8 record.聽

Revenue: The Arkansas athletic department generated $170.6 million in total operating revenue in FY2024, reflecting a $3.2 million increase from the previous year.聽聽

Football accounted for 42% of the university鈥檚 total athletics revenue 鈥 totaling $72.4 million in FY2024. Men鈥檚 basketball followed second in revenue ($22.7 million).聽

Ticket sales: Football ticket sales slightly dropped from $38.9 million to $38.3 million in FY2024. Nonetheless, football remains the most in-demand sport on campus; men鈥檚 basketball ranked second in ticket revenue and saw a notable year-over-year increase from $8 million to $10 million.聽

Other game day revenue: Football experienced a 33% decline in revenue from game programs, novelties, parking and concessions 鈥 bringing the total to $1.2 million. This could also help explain why the Razorbacks introduced a 3% surcharge on all concession sales this past season.聽

Media rights: Football has seen little to no growth in revenue from radio, television, internet, digital and e-commerce over the past few years. In FY2024, football鈥檚 media rights revenue totaled $14.8 million (down $270,000).聽

Royalties, licensing, ads and sponsorships: Football鈥檚 revenue in this category is up again after trending down the prior year 鈥 totaling $5.4 million in FY2024.

Expenses: The Arkansas athletic department raised its spending budget by $775,000, bringing total operating costs to $167.3 million in FY2024.聽

Football in particular spent an additional $3.2 million to bring its operating costs to $57.1 million. Men鈥檚 basketball followed as the second-most expensive sport with $15 million in expenses.聽

Meals: The university spent $5.4 million on non-travel student-athlete meal allowances and food/snacks in FY2024, and football accounted for exactly half of that at $2.7 million.聽

Team travel: Meals provided to players on the road were reported under 鈥渢eam travel,鈥 but this category also considers lodging, air and ground travel. While uncommon in college sports, men鈥檚 basketball ($2.4 million) actually spent more than football ($2.1 million) in this category.

Game expenses: While most Razorbacks sports programs increased their game-day expenses in FY2024, football saw a decrease, bringing its total to $4.5 million. This covered the costs of officials, security and event staff. Notably, men鈥檚 basketball spent $1.3 million.聽

Recruiting: The football program spent $1.3 million to recruit its players in FY2024 鈥 which was 49% of what the university spent on recruiting for all sports. Football鈥檚 spending laid the groundwork for the program to acquire the No. 30 ranking in the Class of 2024 and the No. 29 ranking in the Class of 2025.聽

Severance payments: Arkansas鈥 FY2024 report recognized $2.1 million in severance payments and applicable benefits made to past coaching and administrative personnel (just for football).聽

Salaries: Sam Pittman made $5.7 million in salaries, benefits and bonuses in FY2024. This made him the second-highest-paid head coach at Arkansas (behind basketball). Pittman was the highest-paid college football coach in 2024.聽

Profits: The Arkansas athletic department reported $3.3 million in profits for FY2024 — a remarkable jump from $813,900 in FY2023.

Although football’s profits decreased slightly year-over-year, the program still generated substantial earnings with $15.3 million in profits. In fact, the only other profitable program was men’s basketball at $7.7 million.

Overall, it鈥檚 evident that Arkansas football continues to produce solid revenue and profit figures. The university鈥檚 next NCAA financial report (FY2025) is set to be released in January 2026.聽
