Ranking each Big 12 basketball team’s conference title chances
13. Colorado
The Buffaloes are led by their guard-center duo of Julian Hammond and Elijah Malone, but this is a team that moves the ball around and gets everyone involved. They are averaging 17.1 assists this season. Colorado will likely see a dip in this number when it starts facing better conference competition.
12. Kansas State
The Wildcats have had a tough start, but their luck could change after a big win over Cincinnati to kick off conference play. Dutch guard David N’Guessan has been Kansas State’s most impressive player with 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. Head coach Jerome Tang is more than capable of catapulting the Wildcats toward the top of the conference as he did in 2022-23.
11. UCF
The Knights’ duo of Darius Johnson and Keyshawn Hall have them off to a 10-2 start. Central Florida had a big win over Texas Tech in Lubbock on New Year’s Eve, but the rest of their schedule has been easy besides that. The Knights could make this ranking look ridiculous within the next few weeks, but this is an error on the side of caution with how good the rest of the conference should be.
