John Mateer transferring: 5 possible landing spots for QB
Oklahoma Sooners
Mateer will have his choice of marquee programs to transfer to, but landing at Oklahoma ultimately seems to be the likeliest scenario. That’s in large part due to the Sooners recently hiring Ben Arbuckle as their new offensive coordinator who helped Mateer thrive in Pullman in 2024. Reuniting with Arbuckle in Norman would give Oklahoma’s offense a significant boost as the Sooners’ passing attack ranked just 122nd among 133 FBS teams during the 2024 regular season. Freshman signal caller Michael Hawkins Jr. remains on the roster but struggled at times in his first season, while highly-touted five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold has transferred to Auburn. That leaves an opening for Mateer who could return the Sooners to relevance in their second SEC season while playing just over two hours from his hometown of Little Elm, Texas.
