Sahuarita Mustangs girls soccer team begins the season with 5-game winning streak
SAHUARITA, Ariz. — It was quite a week for Sahuarita High School’s Lady Mustangs varsity soccer team.

They kicked off the season with their participation in the Time to Fly Soccer Classic at Rio Rico High School and dominated with wins against Tanque Verde, Rincon/University, Sunnyside, Nogales and a shut-out win over Flowing Wells, ending in 5-0.

The teams winning streak of five games, including their 5-1 win over the Nogales Apaches in the semi-finals landed them in the championship game against Douglas High School. The players battled fiercly till the last moments of the game, ending in a 2-0 win for Douglas, leaving Sahuarita Mustangs the runners-up.

Just one year ago, the team had a huge turnover and played its last season with nine new freshmen on the team. It was a season of growth and lessons learned. But as was displayed in the tournament, the Lady Mustangs are back with power, speed, and a hunger to win.

Led by team captains, Madison Carter, Zophia Martinez, and Breah Pack; the Mustangs have shown they will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2024/2025 season.
