Top 5 matchups for Week 14 of the 2024 college football season

1. No. 3 Texas at No. 20 Texas A&M – Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC

Texas and Texas A&M reuniting their rivalry is not only one of the best games of the weekend, but it holds some of the highest stakes of any Week 14 matchup. The winner will advance to play Georgia in the SEC championship game in Atlanta, while the Aggies might also be playing in an elimination game when it comes to their playoff hopes.

The Longhorns and Aggies have played 118 times going back to 1894. The matchup was played annually from 1915-2011 but stopped once the Aggies moved to the SEC. Saturday’s matchup in College Station will be the first meeting in the series since, with Texas in control with 76 wins overall and victories in 12 of the last 17 contests.

Another win for Texas would cap what has been a terrific regular season and would all but solidify a playoff berth no matter what happens next weekend. The Longhorns’ only loss came in October to Georgia while they have picked up some nice wins in their first year in the SEC. Texas is solid offensively as it puts up over 36 points per game and has a top-20 offense overall as quarterback Quinn Ewers continues to round into form.

However, Texas’ greatest strength is its second-ranked defense which has allowed just 247 yards per game and 13 offensive touchdowns all year. That will pose a big challenge for the Aggies, but their offense has been at a different level since freshman Marcel Reed took over at quarterback. Texas A&M ranks 17th in rushing behind Reed and Amari Daniels who has replaced the injured Le’Veon Moss. Despite a brutal four-overtime loss at Auburn last week, a win to close the season would be the Aggies’ third of the year over a top-10 team.
