Top 5 matchups for Week 11 of the 2024 college football season
1. No. 11 Alabama at No. 15 LSU – Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC
There aren’t many rivalries in college football as good as Alabama and LSU as the two teams have played 88 times since 1895 and annually since 1964. The Crimson Tide lead the series with a 56-27-5 record. That’s thanks in part to a strong recent stretch where they have won 11 of the last 13 matchups following a successful run by LSU in the early 2000s.
High stakes tend to follow this historic rivalry and will again this year as both teams are fighting for their playoff lives. Alabama is 6-2 and has a big win over Georgia on its resume but has dropped SEC games at Vanderbilt and Tennessee. The Crimson Tide responded with a dominant 34-0 win in their last contest over Missouri and could be a playoff favorite if they can win in Baton Rouge based on their upcoming schedule. That will take another big performance from the 16th-ranked scoring offense in the country and a consistent road outing from dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe in particular.
Milroe will go head-to-head with LSU signal caller Garrett Nussmeier who has put up big numbers this season but has also been prone to turnovers, throwing three picks in LSU’s recent loss at Texas A&M. The Tigers’ passing attack has still thrived overall, ranking sixth in the country, while LSU’s defense is also ranked 21st and has played well in the Tigers’ six wins. Brian Kelly’s team should come into this game ready to go after sitting on its loss to the Aggies for two weeks. Producing a high-scoring affair could ultimately favor the Tigers as they look to maintain their playoff hopes.
