Danville HS girls tennis and flag football update
DANVILLE, Ill. — Early in October, the Danville High School Girls Tennis team sports a 10-4 record in dual meets on the season, with only one loss being in Conference, again Normal Community.
Here are some of the individual highlights of the season: Anna Houpt is 13-1 in 1 singles and 20 鈥� 1 in 1 doubles with Reese Rundle. Reese is also 13-1 in 2 singles.
In doubles in September, Reese and Anna won the Centennial doubles tournament, and finished 2nd in the Raider Invite.
Also on the team are Aliya Morgan and Samantha Brown, who play 3&4 singles and 2 doubles. Maya Towne and Lexi Foley play 5&6 singles and 3 doubles.
Upcoming October meets include the Blooming High School Tournament, the Conference tournament at Normal Community, and the ISHA Sectional, hosted by Paris. Any athletes who finish in the top 4 of either singles or doubles at the Sectional qualify for state.
鈥淚t has been a very fun, competitive and successful season so far,” relays Coach Kathy Houpt.
The Girls Flag Football team is closing out their inaugural winning season in October as well, currently riding a five game winning streak. Much of that streak is due to Taylor Williams restructuring the team鈥檚 offensive and defensive lineups. 鈥淪he has done an outstanding job of putting players together in the best positions,鈥� says Coach Bryan Simmons.
That restructuring helped DHS win their pool in the First Annual DHS Flag Football Jamboree in September, where nine teams competed. A jamboree is where many teams get together to play several games over just a day or two, as a limited number of teams so far in the sport make travelling a concern for the teams.
Regionals were October 8 in Joliet.
