Top 5 matchups for Week 6 of the 2024 college football season
1. No. 9 Missouri at No. 25 Texas A&M – Saturday, Noon ET, ABC
Missouri and Texas A&M have played 16 times since 1957, with 10 of those matchups coming since 2000. The Tigers and Aggies have not seen each other as often as SEC opponents, playing just once in the past decade. That 2021 contest ended in a dominant 35-14 win for the Aggies in College Station who lead the series with nine wins compared to seven for the Tigers.
While Mizzou enters Week 6 ranked higher than the Aggies, the Tigers are slight underdogs as they visit College Station. That’s likely in part due to their last two performances as Missouri narrowly defeated Boston College, 27-21, before taking two overtimes to beat Vanderbilt in Week 4. Eli Drinkwitz will hope his team comes off its bye week refreshed with a top-20 total offense in the country led by quarterback Brady Cook, who has been inconsistent, in addition to running back Nate Noel and receiver Luther Burden III. Missouri also has the No. 3-ranked defense in the country and pitched back-to-back shutouts to open the season.
If the defense gets back to that form, it could be tough for Texas A&M to defend home field as the Aggies’ offense has struggled with starting quarterback Conner Weigman out of the lineup and he appears questionable to suit up in this game. However running back Le’Veon Moss has been a bright spot offensively for the Aggies who already have SEC wins over Florida and Arkansas. While Mike Elko’s defense hasn’t been elite, the Aggies have allowed 23 points or less in all five contests thus far. Creating a low-scoring, grind-it-out game could be the recipe for Texas A&M to hand Missouri its first loss.
