Top 5 matchups for Week 5 of the 2024 college football season

5. Arkansas vs. No. 24 Texas A&M – Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

Arkansas and Texas A&M will match up at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday as part of an exciting week of games across the SEC. The storied rivalry began in 1903 with the teams playing annually from 1934-91. After a hiatus, they have resumed playing yearly since 2009. The Razorbacks lead the series with a 42-35-1 record, but the Aggies have had success recently with 11 wins in the previous 12 matchups.

Arkansas enters this year’s contest as slight underdogs again as it looks for its second win in the series since 2011 while beginning a three-game stretch against ranked opponents with Tennessee and LSU up next. The Hogs have some momentum at 3-1 with their only loss coming in overtime at Oklahoma State. While Arkansas’ defense has struggled to find consistency, its offense has led the charge, ranking eighth in the country behind talented dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green and breakout star running back Ja’Quinden Jackson.

Those two will need to be on their game against a Texas A&M squad that has been strong in four games under Mike Elko. The Aggies are also 3-1, giving Notre Dame all it could handle in Week 1 before a nice SEC win at Florida and non-conference victories over McNeese and Bowling Green. The biggest x-factor for Texas A&M will be the availability of injured quarterback Conner Weigman who is expected to be a game-time decision. If he returns alongside a rushing offense that ranks eighth in the country behind Le’Veon Moss, the Aggies would have a good chance of keeping their playoff hopes alive in what is a pretty even matchup on paper.
