Mazama wins Basin Invite Volleyball Tournament in thrilling finale
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Basin Invite Volleyball Tournament, hosted at Klamath Union High School, brought together a fierce competition among local high schools this past weekend. Teams from Henley, Mazama, Klamath Union, Crosspoint Christian, Bonanza, Klamath Union鈥檚 JV1, Chiloquin, and Lost River gathered for the annual event, showcasing top regional talent.
In the championship match, the Mazama Vikings battled their way to a hard-fought victory over Henley, winning the contest 2-1 after dropping the first set. Mazama bounced back with scores of 15-25, 25-15, and 15-5 to claim the title.
Key players from Mazama played pivotal roles in securing the win. Junior middle blocker Cali Bitzer led her team with a standout performance, racking up 30 kills, 13 aces, and a serving average of 94.9%, along with 12 digs, 2 assists, and 7 blocks. Fellow junior middle blocker Sydney Baker contributed with 17 kills, 7 aces, and 19 digs. Senior setter London O鈥橞rien also shined with 65 assists and 12 aces.
The Basin Invite is an early-season litmus test for local volleyball teams, offering an opportunity to gauge strengths and identify areas for improvement ahead of league play.
