Top 5 matchups for Week 2 of the 2024 college football season
4. Boise State vs. No. 7 Oregon – Saturday, 10:00 p.m. ET, Peacock
Saturday鈥檚 matchup between Boise State and Oregon might not jump off the page like a couple of other games on this list, but it could ultimately be one of the most thrilling contests of the weekend. The two schools have only faced off three times, with each matchup coming since 2008. The Broncos have won all three games over the Ducks, including their most recent matchup in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2017.
While this game should see plenty of offensive fireworks, perhaps one of the more surprising results of Week 1 was Oregon defeating Idaho by just 10 points, 24-14, in Dillon Gabriel鈥檚 debut in Dan Lanning鈥檚 offense. Gabriel was still terrific with 380 yards on 41 completions, but Oregon looked a bit rusty overall despite extending its non-conference home winning streak to 33 games.
The Ducks are more than two-touchdown favorites to take the streak to 34 on Saturday night, but Boise State might have something to say about that following an exciting 56-45 shootout win in its season opener at Georgia State. The Broncos were led by talented running back Ashton Jeanty who put up 267 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Oregon will be expected by most to pick up another non-conference win at home on Saturday night, but if Boise State can keep up in a shootout, the Broncos could sneak out an upset that would greatly enhance their playoff chances.
