Q&A with Weston lacrosse player Olivia Scully-Power
WESTON, Mass. — Olivia Scully-Power (17) has been a powerhouse of an attacker in lacrosse for over 10 years. She started playing town lacrosse in 1st grade and has honed her stick skills since then to become the great player that she is today. Known for her fast shot and team-oriented mindset, Olivia has significantly contributed to the successes of both the Weston High School (WHS) Girls Varsity Lacrosse team and her club team, Revolution Lacrosse. This year alone, WHS finished the regular season with a 14-4 overall record, clinched the DCL Foley Division Championship, and reached the Final Four in postseason play.
Individually, Olivia鈥檚 accolades are equally impressive. Over her high school years, she was named Rookie of the Year in 2023, earned a DCL All-Star Honorable Mention, and received an All-Academic All-American Nomination.
A highlight of Olivia鈥檚 lacrosse career has been her recruitment to play on the Argentina National Team, a team composed of women ages 15-26 with Argentine citizenship. The team attends training camps in Massachusetts and Maryland each year and travel all over to play tournaments, culminating in the World Championship qualifiers and then hopefully the World Championships. 鈥淚 am super proud to be on the team with such amazing girls with similar backgrounds!鈥� exclaims Olivia.
Olivia鈥檚 athletic prowess extends beyond lacrosse. She is a member of both the WHS Girls Varsity Volleyball and Swim/Dive teams. Always a team player, she demonstrated her versatility and dedication when she stepped in during a volleyball playoff game in her sophomore year to cover for an injured teammate, showcasing her natural attacking skills. Additionally, Olivia鈥檚 passion for swimming/diving led her to coach younger children in the Red Waves program, sharing her love for the pool with the next generation of swimmers and divers.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Olivia Scully-Power: I hope to have a great season next year and possibly continue to play in college.
What do you love about your sport?
Scully-Power: I love how lacrosse is such a team sport, and you can tell how working together makes the team so much better.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport?
Scully-Power: A big challenge for me with lacrosse is the time commitment that it takes. I travel almost every weekend in the summer and several weekends during the school year. During the off-season, I have to go straight from diving or volleyball to lacrosse practice, which is usually 45 minutes away.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Scully-Power: A coach once told me, 鈥楩ocus on the process, not the outcome.鈥� This advice put a lot into perspective for me and emphasized the importance of hard work and paying attention to the steps and actions required to become a better player, rather than obsessing over the final result.
Do you have a pregame routine you follow?
Scully-Power: I don’t necessarily have a pregame ritual, but I always wear the same type of hair ties.
Describe a mistake you made within your sport and how you overcame it.
Scully-Power: For a few years, I played for a club team that, although I was thriving at, I dreaded going to because it wasn鈥檛 fun or enjoyable for me. I didn鈥檛 switch teams at first, because I grew up playing with this club and felt I should stick it out. However, once I ultimately switched to my current club, I had the best time and became such a better player.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Scully-Power: I love to hang out with my friends and family.
What has being a member of a team taught you?
Scully-Power: It has taught me the importance of working together, sharing ideas, and supporting each other. It also showed me how to handle different opinions and adapt to changes to reach our goals.

Scully-Power: I am so proud of how far our team got this year and how amazing our season went!
