Ranking each Big 12 football head coach entering 2024 season
1. Kyle Whittingham, Utah
Like Gundy, Whittingham is also entering his 20th season as head coach at Utah and his tenure with the Utes has been highly impressive. Whittingham has coached in some capacity at Utah dating back to 1994 and earned the top job after Urban Meyer left for Florida in 2004. Since, Whittingham has earned conference coach of the year honors three times and won the Bear Bryant Award in 2008, a season where the Utes went a perfect 13-0 and finished second in the AP poll. Whittingham has overseen just two losing seasons in his long tenure at Utah and has led the Utes to 17 bowl games, including the Rose Bowl in 2021 and 2022. With veteran quarterback Cameron Rising returning in 2024, Whittingham should have Utah in position to challenge for a conference title in its first Big 12 season.
