5 darkhorse contenders for the 2024-25 College Football Playoff
Kansas Jayhawks
The thought of Kansas being considered for a College Football Playoff berth would have been unimaginable just a couple of years ago, but things have turned around quickly in the Lance Leipold era. Last year, the Jayhawks went 9-4 and won their first bowl game since 2008. The season was highlighted by an upset win over top-ranked Oklahoma, and outside of a beatdown at Texas, Kansas’ other three losses were all winnable games.Â
Now, dual-threat quarterback Jalon Daniels will return for the Jayhawks to give the offense even more firepower behind star running back Devin Neal and a trio of senior wideouts including Lawrence Arnold, Quentin Skinner and Luke Grimm. The offense should be electric, and if the Jayhawks’ defense remains solid, Kansas could be one of the better teams in the Big 12. Ultimately, a relatively soft schedule outside of road games at Kansas State and West Virginia gives the Jayhawks a golden chance to sneak into the back half of the playoff field.
