5 darkhorse contenders for the 2024-25 College Football Playoff
Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado is viewed as a relative longshot for most when it comes to making the College Football Playoff, but it’s hard to rule out a team with an abundance of talent at some of the most important positions in the sport. Last season, the Buffaloes surprised everyone with a 3-0 start that included big wins over TCU and Nebraska. The season went downhill in a hurry after that, but there’s reason to believe that things will be different in 2024. Defense isn’t the first thing you think about with Deion Sanders’ squad, but the Buffs have added several key transfers to improve what was a major weak spot last year.Â
Meanwhile, Pat Shurmur has been brought in to run the offense, and Shedeur Sanders, who enters 2024 as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, has a multitude of weapons to throw to including Travis Hunter and skilled transfer LaJohntay Wester. Colorado’s schedule isn’t overly difficult at the start outside of a road game at Nebraska. If the Buffaloes can grab that one and win another conference road game at Arizona or Kansas while holding their own in Boulder, they could be squarely in the playoff mix.
