Meet Cape Henry鈥檚 multi-sport rising star Liza Pridgen

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — At just 16 years old, Liza Pridgen has already left an indelible mark on the sports scene at Cape Henry Collegiate. A multi-talented athlete, Pridgen has showcased her skills in a variety of sports including swimming, lacrosse, basketball and tennis. Her sports journey began early on with swimming at age 5, adding basketball and tennis at 7 and embracing lacrosse in 5th grade.

Despite her young age, Pridgen has already stacked up an impressive list of achievements. From being named 2nd Team All-TCIS (Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools) and All-State in lacrosse during her freshman year to snagging first team honors in both categories in her sophomore year, and a Coach鈥檚 Award for swimming, it鈥檚 clear that she is a force to be reckoned with.

Pridgen was part of the winning Tennis State Championship teams in 2022 and 2023, and most recently, the TCIS Lacrosse Championship title-winning team for 2024. With her leadership and dedication shining through on and off the field, her contributions to these team successes have not gone unnoticed.

Looking forward, Pridgen aspires to play lacrosse in college, a dream that she is diligently working towards. Despite her competitive drive, her ultimate goal is to have fun and enjoy every moment in her sports pursuits.

Reflecting on her journey, Pridgen credits her coaches and mentors for invaluable advice that has shaped her approach to sports and life. One key lesson that resonates with her is the importance of resilience and learning from mistakes. When faced with challenges, Pridgen remains unfazed and adopts a positive mindset, focusing on improvement and growth. 鈥淚 believe it is not about the mistake you make, but how you respond to it and what you do to make up for it,鈥 she said.

As Pridgen continues to push boundaries in her athletic path, her dedication speaks volumes about the power of passion, persistence and the true spirit of sportsmanship.
