Hoover Vikings girls track 2024 highlights
NORTH CANTON, Ohio — This year, the girls were 3-3 in the Federal League, middle of the pack — not too bad. However, we had some outstanding bright spots that really helped Hoover make a name for itself. The leader was senior Amahrie Harsh. She was not only speedy but also showed leadership skills in helping others with starting blocks and drills, and she had an overall positive attitude about the sport. She was a top contender in all of her open events to include the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes. What we didn’t expect was for her to break the school record in all three and win each of those events at the Regional level. At the state meet, Amahrie placed 8th in the 100, making her All-Ohio.
But the cherry on top was the fact that we had another junior, Lexi Wims, who was equally fast in the 200, and two newcomers, Peyton Waldorff and Savannah Tindell, who came a long way within the season. Put that all together, and we had a state-contending 4×200-meter relay. There were a few moves within the order and some hiccups along the way, but eventually, the girls found their groove, placing first at most meets, and also broke the school record. The relay qualified for the state meet as well and placed 7th overall, making all four girls All-Ohio. Lexi also qualified to be Academic All Ohio!
Last but not least, junior Chloe Schans was flirting with breaking the school record in the pole vault all year and achieved that goal late in the season.
All in all, four state qualifiers, two podium finishes, and five school records broken.
