Ruby Owens is a dedicated sophomore in high school who has quickly made her mark in region 5 girls’ golf. She lettered her freshman year and that was just the beginning. This year, Ruby now stands as our top varsity scorer. Her relentless work ethic and commitment to excellence are evident as she consistently challenges herself to compete among the region’s best. Most recently she secured a 10th place finish. Ruby’s trajectory only promises further growth as she continues to work and reach her goals.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Ruby Owens: My goals within this sport are to be on par soon and possibly play college golf.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Owens: The biggest challenge is the mental aspect of golf. I try to manage this by staying out of my own head.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Owens: The future is always the most important, don’t let the past affect your game.
What do you love about your sport?
Owens: I like the challenge and variety of playing at different golf courses, no two shots are ever alike.
Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?
Owens: Not really.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Owens: I like to hang out with my friends and be outside.

What has being a member of a team taught you?
Owens: My good pal, Kyah, taught me to always remember to have fun and at the end of the day, it is just a game.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Owens: Coach Savage told me to always remember the next shot is the most important, leave the bad shots in the past, there is nothing I can do about it once it is in the past.
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.
Owens: In golf, there are always lots of mistakes. I think striving to have mental toughness is always a good solution.
