Q&A with Marvin Ridge T&F athlete Aria Wegh

WAXHAW, N.C. — A Q&A with Aria Wegh who is a senior at Marvin Ridge High School and has participated in track & field for four years.

How did you first get into track and field?

Aria Wegh: Both of my parents ran track and field, so when I quit diving in eighth grade, they encouraged me to try it out.

What is a memorable moment or achievement?

Wegh: Some of my favorite memories from track are going to the indoor and outdoor national meets. One of my favorite races was running the 4×200 with my teammates in NYC. I always love when I get to run with my friends.

Who do you look up to for inspiration?

Wegh: Anna Hall is my biggest inspiration because she is a 400 hurdler and heptathlete. I love how she is incredibly dedicated and hardworking but also has such a strong passion for the sport.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Wegh: My biggest dream was to run track in college, and I just committed to Wake Forest last fall. My goal for the spring season is to defend my 300 hurdle state title. This summer, I hope to make the USA Under 20 team for the 400 Hurdles or Heptathlon.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport and what do you do to manage his challenge?

Wegh: My biggest challenge in track is letting my body rest and recover. It is so hard for me to take time off and not practice when I have so many goals ahead of me. To manage this, during breaks I cross train instead of run, so that I keep in shape, but also let my body get the recovery it needs.
