Ranking the 10 greatest Edmonton Elks in franchise history
10. Normie Kwong, RB (1951-60)
Kwong, the first Chinese Canadian to play professional football, left his mark on the Alberta gridiron.
The “China Clipper” ranks third in career scores (77) among Edmonton players. He was one-half of a potent backfield tandem, being named All-Western rusher four times and playing on four Grey Cup-winning teams, three in Edmonton.
Kwong twice earned the Schenley Award for Most Outstanding Canadian. He was the Western Division’s top ground gainer in 1951, 1955, and 1956.
