Ranking the 10 greatest Edmonton Elks in franchise history
1. Warren Moon, QB (1978-83)
Moon used a stellar three years as a starter in Alberta as a launchpad to a Hall of Fame career in the NFL. It was a mutually beneficial partnership, as Edmonton had its Grey Cup five-peat with him either at the controls or sharing them.
He was twice the title game’s MVP and led the CFL in passing touchdowns three times.
Before departing to join the Houston Oilers, Moon was the league’s foremost passer in 1983, earning him the Schenley Award for the Most Outstanding Player with what was a single-season-record 5,648 passing yards and 31 air scores.
The year prior, he became the first professional signal-caller to pass for 5,000 yards in a season by reaching that mark on the dot.
