John Calipari leaving: 5 Kentucky MBB head coach candidates
Scott Drew
Drew has proven to be one of the top coaches in college basketball today, turning his Baylor Bears program from single-digit win seasons to national championship contenders over the past 20 years. Over his 21 years as a college head coach at both Baylor and Valparaiso, Drew has a 466-255 record with 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 finishes, two Elite Eight finishes, an NIT championship and the 2021 NCAA Tournament championship.
Drew received a lot of attention from Louisville when that job opened up this offseason, but he turned it down. However, Kentucky is even more prestigious and has deeper pockets than its in-state rival and could make an offer the coach could not refuse. While it would be an expensive deal to lure Drew away from his Bears program, if there was a team to do it it would be the Wildcats.
