2. David Shields, P, Mt. Lebanon
Shields is the top southpaw pitcher in the state and it showed last year. Though only a sophomore last season, Shields has reclassified into the senior class thanks to how dominant he was for the Blue Devils. During the year, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound pitcher went 5-2 with a 0.94 ERA and 106 strikeouts and a no-hitter over 67 1/3 innings pitched while leading Mt. Lebanon to the PIAA Class 6A state championship game. He was named the Class 6A Player of the Year as well as a Baseball Factory All-American.Â
Expectations are once again high for Shields this year as he was also named a Baseball America Preseason second-team All-American. Shields is considered one of the top two players in the state’s 2024 class by recruiters, ranking second by Perfect Game and first by PBR. He signed with the Miami Hurricanes on
