Q&A with Marvin Ridge basketball player Josh Clark

WAXHAW, N.C. — A Q&A with Josh Clark who is a senior at Ardrey Kell and is a member of the basketball team.

Years in current sport: 9

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Josh Clark: To score 1,000 points during my high school basketball career, become more vocal as a team leader, and to cherish every game and play with confidence. I want to play every game like it is my last game.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Clark: My Dad taught me that you can鈥檛 look to blame others for mistakes. Take ownership for what you can control and do your best.

What do you love about your sport?

Clark: I love competing against other teams. It鈥檚 exciting playing with your teammates, in front of your friends and family, on a Friday night. It is also one of my favorite ways to relieve stress and relax.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Clark: I have some fruit and listen to music before every game. I try to play the game in my mind and see our team winning.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Clark: Every team is different. This year, I learned the importance of being a leader. On my travel team last year, I learned to play with confidence, knowing that every player has their individual strengths and we all contribute to being a team.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Clark: During my freshman year, I missed the game winning shot. My team trusted me so I was very upset with myself. I overcame the disappointment by understanding that everyone misses shots. The only thing worse than missing a shot is not taking the shot.
