Spring Creek area 12-year-old David Muir鈥檚 hunting adventure
SPRING CREEK, Nev. — My name is David Muir, I am 12 years old, and my hunt was in area fourteen. Even back when I was a little kid I enjoyed hunting, hunting rabbits with my 22 was always my favorite, I even would go hunting deer and elk with my grandpa and dad. With our camp spot being an hour away from home, the drive felt like forever. Anticipating the hunt ahead, I was overly excited for the hunt. When we arrived at our camp spot, it was on the brink of dark. Once we had our tent set up, we told 海角社区 of previous hunts around a campfire and sipped hot chocolate. We soon turned in for the night, nervous and excited for the day to come. I really struggled to sleep.
When I woke up from sleeping, I got dressed and went to my grandpa鈥檚 camper. He was already awake and cooking burritos. Soon later, I was sipping on hot chocolate and enjoying my sausage breakfast burrito when my dad came in and sat down. Soon he had a burrito and coffee. With all of our stomachs happy and filled with breakfast burritos, we took off in our side-by-side.
After a short ride, we arrived at the mountain top. We could see for a couple miles, canyon after canyon after canyon. We are looking down, and we spot a group of mule deer in a flat area. We decide to hike across these mountains, and drop down in the flat area. After an exhausting hike, we come to this knoll to where we can shoot down into this flat area. We spotted a 3×4 buck, which we ranged at 210 yards, and we got ready to shoot.
I put the gun on our backpack on top of a rock, and folded out the bipod, I put my scope on the deer, squeezed the trigger and, POW! You can hear the bullet hit the deer, and it runs under a bush, but it鈥檚 head is still up. We got closer and noticed his head was still up. I adjusted to get a better angle and then shot it again and, POW! Its head goes down immediately. We go to it, and it鈥檚 dead. After getting a few pictures, we radioed my mom and grandpa to tell them that we got it, and to
bring the side-by-side down.
We have a snack, and the side-by-side arrives. We load the deer in the back and we drive back to the top. Once we get up there, we get the other side-by-side and drive down. After gutting and quartering it, we go back to camp to chill and celebrate. We soon arrive to camp, and we celebrate the day鈥檚 hunt. Afterwards we went and hunted chuckar, although we didn’t get any birds, the experience helped me become a better hunter.
I enjoy eating jerky and granola bars while hunting, even though it’s a quick snack, it is still delicious. I do like to use my Cabelas boots while hunting, and my trusty Leupold binoculars always help me spot the deer. I definitely could not hunt without my gun, but my binoculars always help me tons. My favorite part of the hunt was when I had hit the deer and Grandpa spotted me through his Vortex Spotting scope when I was doing my celebration dance. The gun I used to kill the deer was a Christensen Arms 6.5 Creedmoor which I harvested it with.
