Rumson-Fair Haven wrestling wins first group 2 state championships in history
RUMSON, N.J. — Rumson-Fair Haven wrestling completed a historic weekend winning our first group 2 state championships in program history at Rutgers University, toppling Jefferson 60-15. This was a goal of ours since I got to RFH three seasons ago. Through the whole tournament, our team took no one lightly and it showed through their dominating performance. In matches, they were favored but we came out on fire. Heavyweight Ma Smith really set the tone pinning the number 10 wrestler in the state in the first period and freshman 106-pounder Henry Marshall pinned as well.

Getting those two pins really took the wind out of their sails with our opponents being favored in both those matches. It was great to see the chemistry that has been built into our team through our senior leadership. We really saw guys step up and fill their roles on the team this year, which was essential to us winning in a dominant fashion throughout the entire group to sectional and state championship playoffs. The atmosphere at RFH matches is second to none our fans really kept the energy high in our home gym creating one of the best high school wrestling atmospheres in New Jersey. Rumson-Fair Haven is turning into a wrestling town and we are more than excited for what the future holds. We have a ton of support behind the program and will continue to work diligently at being the best that we can be both on and off the mat while building the Rumson-Fair Haven wrestling tradition.
