Melbourne Central Catholic 4-star football player DayDay Farmer flips commitment

Melbourne Central Catholic 4-star football player DayDay Farmer flips commitment

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports four star athlete Ric’Darious 鈥楧ayDay鈥 Farmer has flipped his verbal commit from UCF and on early national signing day this morning at his high school, Melbourne Central Catholic, signed to continue his education and football playing career at the West Virginia University.

Farmer has had a stellar high school career. He began by playing for his current head coach Nate Hooks at Holy Trinity where Farmer totaled 1,751 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in two seasons.

He amassed these yards and touchdowns despite missing time with a knee injury.

After Nate Hooks was let go from Holy Trinity and following the sudden death of Farmer鈥檚 father in December of 2021, DayDay followed his coach to Cocoa high school in 2022 where Hooks became an assistant and Farmer became a vital part of a record setting Cocoa offense.

Farmer led the Tigers with 938 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns and he was part of Cocoa鈥檚 2022 2S state championship team.

In that state championship game vs FSU High, Farmer proved to be a huge factor as he hauled in 11 catches for 145 yards and one touchdown.

He would once again follow his coach, Nate Hooks, who DayDay says 鈥渋s like a father to him鈥 to Melbourne Central Catholic where Hooks was hired to be the head coach last January.

Farmer鈥檚 senior season was slow to start as he suffered a lower body injury during the fourth game and he did not return fully until the eighth game of the regular season.

He still finished his senior campaign with 302 receiving yards and three scores and he added an additional 195 yards on the ground with three more touchdowns as the Hustlers finished with their best record (9-3) since 2016.

MCC would fall in the 1S regional finals to eventual 1S state runner up Trinity Catholic.

Farmer also played defense where he registered 25 tackles and one interception.

Farmer鈥檚 recruiting has been interesting to watch as originally he verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh on Christmas Day last year but flipped his commitment on August 1 to UCF.

He visited the West Virginia Morgantown campus a few weeks back and apparently liked what he saw and heard.

DayDay had the WVA and UCF hat on the table with him and when it came to to sign picked up the one that will send him to Morgantown, West Virginia to play for head coach Neal Brown who guided WVA to an 8-4 record this season and 6-3 in the BigXII which was good for fourth place.

The Mountaineers are playing North Carolina December 27 in the Dukes Mayonnaise Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Congratulations on your hard commitment to become a Mountaineer DayDay and good luck next season with the Mountaineers.
