Ranking the 10 best non-New Year’s Six bowl matchups
1. Valero Alamo Bowl: No. 14 Arizona vs. No. 12 Oklahoma
The Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28 in San Antonio is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing matchups taking place outside of the New Year’s Six games. The contest will mark just the third time Arizona and Oklahoma face off with each winning one game in a home-and-home series in the late 1980s. While some departures to the transfer portal will impact this one, enough talent will still be on the field that should make this a close contest throughout.
Arizona was one of the surprise teams in a competitive Pac-12 this season, finishing third in the conference while losing to only USC and Washington. The Wildcats’ top-20 offense led by quarterback Noah Fifita will give them a chance in this game. Oklahoma will be without its quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, who has transferred to Oregon. However, that only adds to the intrigue as it will likely be time for five-star freshman Jackson Arnold to get the call for a Sooners squad that won 10 games this season while losing just two contests by a combined eight points.
