Ranking the 9 new Power 5 head coach hires this offseason
1. Willie Fritz, Houston
Fritz brings a balance of experience and success with him to the Cougars. The 31-year head coach has a career record of 247-121-1 at nearly every level of football from junior college to D-II to FCS to Group of 5. Over eight seasons at Tulane, Fritz had only three losing campaigns and led the team to five bowl games and a 2022 conference title, going 54-47 over that span.
Given his plethora of experience at all levels of football, it is clear that Fritz knows how to build a program, recruit players and connect to a team regardless of skill level or level of competition. This makes it feel like Fritz will find nothing but success at Houston where the pressure to perform well is a bit higher since the team recently joined the Big 12.
