EJ Smith enters transfer portal; 5 landing spots for RB
STANFORD, Calif. (BVM) – Another child of a Pro Football Hall of Famer has entered his name into the transfer portal. Stanford Cardinal senior running back EJ Smith, the son of Dallas Cowboys legendary running back Emmitt Smith, announced his decision to transfer Tuesday.

EJ had an up-and-down career with the Cardinal. After serving as a backup during his freshman and sophomore seasons, EJ was projected to make a leap as a junior and started the season with 206 rushing yards and 63 receiving yards with three rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in two games, but missed the rest of the season due to injury.
After a coaching change, EJ’s stats fell off this past season as he recorded just 216 rushing yards and one score in 12 games, though he still averaged over four yards a carry. EJ also proved to still be a dynamic playmaker, specifically in Stanford’s final game against Notre Dame as he caught seven passes for 116 yards.
As a former four-star recruit with an NFL lineage and two years of eligibility remaining, EJ should attract plenty of attention in the portal. Here are five potential landing spots for the senior running back.
