Newell was able to show off his impressive skills even on a team loaded with top-end D-I talent like Montverde. As a junior last year, Newell averaged 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists for the 24-3 Eagles. Newell also represented USA Basketball as a member of the U19 national basketball team where he averaged 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over seven games, leading the team to a 5-2 record and a fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA Men’s U19 World Cup.
The 6-foot-9 forward is a consensus five-star prospect and top-15 recruit in the country, ranking as high as No. 11 nationally by ESPN.
