New pickleball courts open in Remsberg Park
MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Middletown has opened six new pickleball courts at Remsburg Park.
On Nov. 11, the Town held a ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming the new courts. John Miller, Middletown’s Burgess, said he wants people to go there and just have fun. He added that the Town will soon add lights, a windscreen for the courts, and a permanent water line to the park for restrooms.
After the ribbon cutting, Middletown’s avid pickleball player Dave Falcinell held practice for new players on one court ,while returning players tried out the other courts.
Chris Goodman, Middletown’s Parks and Recreation Chair, said that interest for pickleball in Middletown started in 2018-2019 but then Covid hit; after that, grant money became available, and, from shovel to end, it took only about 2-3 months to open up the courts.
Goodman also added this was the biggest ribbon cutting ceremony he had seen in Middletown, and that pickleball is one of the biggest sports right now in the town, as it is for all ages.
For any pickleball players interested in playing on the new courts, Falcinelli has set up an app called TeamReach. To sign up, enter the 21769 zip code to search, or look for Middletown Pickleball. The app is not for reservations of the court, but just to give a heads-up to other players about plans to play.
