Christiansburg Blue Demons football demolish Blacksburg Bruins on Homecoming Night
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. — In a week that was filled with homecoming festivities, it was a ten-touchdown night by the Christiansburg High School (CHS) football team that capped off an exciting few days. The Blue Demons hosted Blacksburg in the annual Battle of the Burgs this past Friday and walked away with an impressive 71-7 win, their fifth consecutive over the Bruins.
After suffering their first setback of the season at Riverheads High School, the Blue Demons responded with a strong performance against their cross-town rivals. Christiansburg used strong efforts in all three phases of the game to fuel their historic victory. The 71 points earned by the Blue Demons are the most scored by the team in over 107 years. The fireworks started early and went on for a while as the hosts scored over 20 points in each of the first three quarters. Senior quarterback, Tanner Evans, accounted for four touchdowns to continue his stellar campaign. Fellow senior, Jeremiah Thompson, as well as, Matt Annis, combined for three scores, including a pair of pick-sixes.
While the upperclassmen continued to shine, it was Izaiah Cotto that stole the show in front of a packed crowd. The sophomore tallied three touchdowns and also led the team in both rushing yards and receiving yards. He fought for nearly 100 all-purpose yards as well and is en route to being named the Roanoke Times Player of the Week.
Sandwiched between a pair of high-scoring halves of football was the recognition of the 2023 CHS Homecoming Court, as well as the crowning of the 2023 CHS King and Queen. This year鈥檚 royalty was named as Spencer Conner and Mabry Keister.
