New sports film class at Piedra Vista
FARMINGTON, N.M. — In this new class, students have the opportunity to learn and engage in live production and live broadcasting aspects of sporting events. This includes learning graphic design to create the graphics that run on the video boards during games, creating ads, and other fanfare.

Students also learn how to engage with the stadium and create an atmosphere for the sporting event by running software for playing the music. This includes the technical skills of setting up and testing microphones and the soft skills of communicating with refs, coaches, and each other in a positive manner to execute a smooth game.

Live broadcasting of particular sporting events includes camera operation, learning about play-by-play and color commentary, plus setting up and taking down all the equipment, including sound, video, and long runs of cabling!

Our students are getting hands-on, real-life experience in a career path in technology. They take pride and personal ownership in their work. What you see is what they have made. Our students get to create a positive, encouraging work environment for themselves as well as make an impression on other professionals who may be at these venues.

Technology and trends are changing faster than we can keep up with but the students are able to stay on top of their game! Having the responsibility of showing up on time, ready to 鈥渨ork鈥 is something that not all students get the opportunity to practice. It is my opinion that it isn鈥檛 work when we are having fun!
