SAHUARITA, Ariz. — A Q&A with Isabelle Acosta who is a 14-year-old powerlifter and is in the ninth grade at Sahuarita High School.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Isabelle Acosta: I would like to go to Nationals.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Acosta: My biggest downfall is doubting myself and my abilities, but I combat that by continuing to show up for myself!
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Acosta: “Just because you’re not perfect, doesn’t mean you can’t do it.”
What do you love about your sport?
Acosta: I love the support I receive from all of the other powerlifters.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Acosta: I enjoy spending time with my friends, and I try to rest my body.

What has being a member of a team taught you?
Acosta: It has shown me that I am not alone in my fitness journey.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Acosta: “If you work hard, everything will fall into place.”
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.
Acosta: I didn’t lock my knees, so now I focus on having proper technique.

Acosta: I’d like to thank my coach, Chrystal, my mom, and my gym buddies for always motivating and supporting me.
