Giordano鈥檚 late tally helps Rowan women鈥檚 soccer draw with Swarthmore, 2-2
GLASSBORO, N.J. — Julianna Giordano scored with 43 seconds in regulation as Rowan and Swarthmore battled to a 2-2 tie Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Tied 1-1 at the half, the Garnet’s Allie Zitelli scored in the 70th minute of the second before Giordano and the Profs were able to knot things up after a wild scrum off a corner kick with under a minute to play. The sophomore’s attempt got through traffic and off the right post for her first career goal.
Olivia Giordano also scored for Rowan as the squad stays unbeaten through five game this season (4-0-1).
Rowan almost netted the game’s first goal in the 23rd minute as Mackenzie Clement had two cracks inside the box but both attempts hit the iron. Minutes later, Swarthmore went ahead 1-0 as Veronica Gibbons headed in a corner kick from Keren Maze.
The Profs responded 12 minutes later as sister Olivia’s picked off a ball from a pressing Garnet defender near midfield and rushed in on a breakaway to score her fifth goal on the year.
Goalie Calista Burke made three of her five saves in the second half. Swarthmore keeper Nora Greer made all four of her stops after halftime.
Next up for Rowan is a matchup with Penn State-Berks here on Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
