Ranking all 14 Big Ten head coaches entering 2023 season
8. P.J. Fleck, Minnesota
Despite some over the summer, Fleck still enters 2023 as one of the Big Ten鈥檚 better coaches. Fleck got his coaching start as a grad assistant in the Big Ten at Ohio State before becoming a receivers coach at his alma mater, Northern Illinois, as well as with Rutgers, and in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, his breakthrough as a head coach was transforming a one-win Western Michigan team in 2013 to a 13-1 powerhouse just three seasons later. He has seen additional success at Minnesota, going 44-27 overall across six seasons with the Gophers, highlighted by an 11-win campaign in 2019. Coming off of back-to-back nine-win seasons, Fleck has an experienced roster in 2023 that could help the Gophers reach that mark again.
