Charles Woodson helped the Wolverines to a combined record of 17-8 in his first two seasons, but his crowning achievement came in 1997, becoming the first and only defender to win the Heisman Trophy. Michigan allowed 9.5 points per game with Woodson on defense and the 1997 team capped off the 12-0 season with a win over No. 12 Washington State in the Rose Bowl and captured its 11th national title.聽聽
