Cincinnati Country Day鈥檚 Colin Heekin and Sydney Bortz announce college commitments
CINCINNATI — Surrounded by family, classmates, teachers and coaches, two standout Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks announced to what colleges they will be taking their athletic talents next year.
Colin Heekin will play football at Denison University and Sydney Bortz will play soccer at the University of Richmond.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited to have the opportunity to take the next step in furthering my skills in a sport I love at such a great school,” Bortz said. She was a member of Cincinnati Country Day’s Division III state championship team in 2022.
Heekin and Bortz join six other Cincinnati Country Day student-athletes who committed to colleges:
- Gracie Barnes, basketball, University of South Carolina Upstate;
- Tristen Davis, lacrosse, University of Massachusetts-Lowell;
- C.J. DeBra, soccer, Youngstown State University;
- Michael Donahue, lacrosse, Florida Southern College;
- Titan McMullin, football, McKendree University;
- Graham Sorg, football , Case Western Reserve University.
Athletic Director Dennis Coyle thanked the student-athletes for their hard work, sacrifices, and the long hours of practice and training they dedicated to their sports and teammates. Addressing the seniors, Coyle reminded them that 鈥渁s you move on from Country Day, please remember that your coaches, teachers, and classmates at Country Day will be cheering you on from afar. Transitioning to college isn’t always easy; it’s quite a commitment to balance academics and sports, but I feel like your experience at Country Day has prepared you for the balance that will be required of you in this next phase of your journey.鈥�
