Meet Green Canyon鈥檚 new head football coach JT Tauiliili

LOGAN, Utah — JT Tauiliili, (Coach JT) is the new head football coach and social studies teacher at North Logan’s Green Canyon High School. Coach JT describes himself as a football junkie growing up, always by his grandfather’s side, Coach Tom Larson, as he coached at both Kearns and Olympus High School. JT always loved going to practice and games with his grandfather, and played both corner and wide receiver positions on the Hunter High School football team.

Prior to GCHS, Coach JT coached at Lehi for the past two years where he got to see all the work that goes into building a back-to-back state championship team. He was also on staff at Green Canyon when Coach Anhder and Coach Johnson traveled down to St. George, where they upset the top-ranked Pine View High School football team.

This is Coach JT’s 12th year coaching high school football, and he’s excited to be back in Cache Valley because he and his wife find Logan the perfect place to be as they now raise their two children. He is grateful for his amazing team of assistant coaches and wonderful faculty, and appreciates all the hard work that goes into making their football program successful.

When asked about his proudest coaching moment, Coach JT recalled their first win against Hunter High School earlier this year.

“My lifelong dream has always been to be a teacher and head football coach, and to have the dream finally realized would have made the game memorable by itself, but to get the win and to do it against my alma mater definitely made that game special to me.”

Coach JT thinks being a coach helps him try to be a better person.

“I feel like if I am challenging my athletes to get better every week, I have to try and find ways to be better in my roles as a husband, father, and coach.”

Coach JT shares how vital it is to have an atmosphere of energy and urgency at their practices, as they always want to be urgent in their improvement and show up with the energy to make practice fun. No matter if the outcome is a win or a loss, the GCHS coaching staff believes in the importance of accountability, stating: “There are always ways to improve, and that needs to be the focus after any game.” Coach JT hopes that his legacy can be about building men of character.

“I think football is great at teaching life lessons, and I hope that my athletes will always remember these lessons learned.”
