Ribbon cutting ceremony marks grand opening of Westfield Washington softball fields
WESTFIELD, Ind. — Westfield Washington Schools is delighted to announce the opening of the newly constructed softball fields located behind Monon Trail Elementary School, proudly serving Westfield Washington Schools鈥� athletic programs and Westfield Youth Sports Inc.鈥檚 (WYSI) softball program.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by members of the high school, middle school and WYSI softball programs. This occasion marked a new high point in the long-standing relationship between Westfield Washington Schools鈥� athletic departments and our community sports programs. The new facilities feature four softball fields, one baseball field, a concession stand, bathrooms and expanded parking.
Dr. Paul Kaiser, the Superintendent of the Westfield Washington Schools, reminisced on fields past and shared his vision for the future.
“I taught my two daughters to play softball on the old fields at the intermediate school in WYSI,鈥� Kaiser said, “so it鈥檚 amazing to see how far our facilities have come. Our high school softball team just went to their first-ever regional championship, so I鈥檓 looking forward to seeing them continue to take our program to new heights now and in the future.鈥�
The new softball fields will not only be used by district athletics, but they will also provide an expanded capacity for WYSI鈥檚 growing softball program. John Moore, president of the board of directors for Westfield Youth Sports Inc., expressed his enthusiasm for this project.
“Every time I come out here, I am blown away by these fields,鈥� Moore said. 鈥淲e are so appreciative of the work Dr. Kaiser, Brian Tomamichel, Dr. Montalone, and everyone in the Westfield Washington School District has put in to create this spectacular space for our athletes and their families. The fields at Monon Trail provide a state of the art facility that will allow us to grow our softball program for many years. These fields also provide a gathering place for our community to watch youth sports and support in the growth of our programs. WYSI values our partnership with WWS, as both groups truly put the kids first.”
The Westfield Washington Schools extends its appreciation to everyone who helped make these fields a reality, including Skillman Corporation, CSO, Dr. Joe Montalone and our outstanding community members. These fields not only represent a place to learn and play, they also represent a relationship, a commitment and a shared vision between the school district and the community.
