TDs, taxpayers: Texas’ 5 most expensive HS football stadiums

HOUSTON (BVM) – The biggest and most expensive high school football stadiums in Texas all cost tens of millions of dollars to build. It’s taxpayers who fronted the bill thanks to property taxes which are allocated to improve school districts.

Texas is known for producing top football talents and its big sporting facilities like these that often attract some of the top prospects in the country. Stadiums also funnel money back into school districts thanks to naming rights, ticket sales and miscellaneous events such as graduation ceremonies.

However, when the price tag for a high school stadium nears $100 million, the question is, “How much money is too much to spend on high school sports?â€Â

Notably, the biggest high school football stadium in Texas isn’t the most expensive. Memorial Stadium in Mesquite holds the for high school football games at 19,400 people. It cost about $70 million less to build when compared to the No. 1 stadium on this top five list.
