Pat Fitzgerald fired; 5 candidates for new Northwestern HC
4. David Shaw
Shaw has been one of the top head coaches in college football over the past decade and left Stanford last season after 12 years where he accumulated a record of 96-54 with three Pac-12 titles, two Rose Bowl victories and a 2017 Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year award. While the past two years have been difficult for Shaw with a 6-18 combined record, his previous successes at a strong academic institution make him a quality candidate for the Wildcats.
However, given Shaw鈥檚 resignation from Stanford last year, he may not be eager to jump back into the coaching ranks right away. Also with Northwestern set to be a huge rebuilding project,聽 Shaw may not want to jump into such a difficult job. If the Wildcats can get Shaw, he may be able to lead the program back to its previous glory.
