Top 10 highest-rated California HS football players of all time
1. Ronald Powell, Class of 2010 – .9999
Powell is California’s . The Rancho Verde High School (Moreno Valley) defensive end racked up over 80 tackles, 13 sacks and 28 tackles for loss during his senior campaign. Selected to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Powell recorded a ridiculous stat line of five tackles, a forced fumble, a safety, a returned blocked extra point for a score and a receiving touchdown. It was performances like those that had many thinking that.
However, a rocky career at the University of Florida riddled by injuries put a damper on his potential. After becoming a regular starter for the Gators as a sophomore and playing in 12 games, Powell tore his left ACL twice – first in the spring game and again in rehab – during an injury-plagued junior campaign. He returned in 2013 after a medical redshirt season to play in 11 games which allowed him to get selected in the fifth round (169th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Powell was out of the NFL by 2017 and briefly landed with the Orlando Apollos of the AAF for the 2019 season before the league ceased operations later that year.
