Top 10 highest-rated Michigan HS football players since 2000
1. Charles Rogers, WR, Saginaw – 0.9988
Rogers is remembered by many as one of the biggest NFL draft busts in Detroit Lions history, but his career prior to that point was truly special. Alongside LaMarr Woodley, Rogers led Saginaw to plenty of success including a state title in 1999 as a three-time all-state receiver. The five-star became the top wide receiver recruit in the 2000 class, and the No. 3-ranked player overall. He remains No. 42 overall when it comes to national recruiting rankings all time.
Following his time at Saginaw, Rogers stayed close to home to play for Michigan State. In just two seasons with the Spartans, the talented wideout racked up 135 receptions for 2,821 yards and 27 touchdowns. He quickly chose to jump to the NFL, and was selected No. 2 overall by his home-state Detroit Lions in 2003.聽
Unfortunately, Rogers would not last long in the league, breaking his clavicle twice which limited him to just six games between the 2003 and 2004 seasons, and being suspended for violating the NFL鈥檚 substance abuse policy in 2005. By 2006, he had been released by the Lions, and despite a few workouts with various teams, he never made his way back to the league. Rogers passed away in 2019 at just 38 years old, but his memory lives on as one of the state鈥檚 all-time greats.
