Bob Huggins resigns; 5 candidates to replace WVU head coach
1. Andy Kennedy
While the Mountaineers have a ton of options available to them, perhaps none is better than Kennedy. Not only is Kennedy a former Huggins assistant, serving under the coach as an assistant at Cincinnati from 2001-05, but he also has D-I Power 5 experience as a former head coach at Ole Miss and has had a lot of success at his most recent stop of UAB.
As the Blazers’ head coach, Kennedy has a 78-25 record, one NCAA Tournament appearance and led the team to a runner-up finish in the NIT this past season. Prior to his time at UAB, Kennedy had a 245-156 record with the Rebels, led the team to six NIT appearances and two NCAA appearances and won SEC Coach of the Year twice over 12 seasons. With a great understanding of a Huggins-led program and a lot of his own success at the Power 5 level and other levels of D-I basketball, Kennedy would make a perfect fit for the Mountaineers as they look ahead to a new future.
